SWA Awards 2021 : FINAL JURY – Television

AATISH KAPADIA

A track record proven over decades, and across multiple positions in the TV Industry, Aatish Kapadia is a name that inspires awe. He is a Screenwriter, Producer, Actor and Director, who has worked predominantly in the sphere of TV shows and then graduated to Bollywood. Aatish has written popular TV shows like Sara Bhai vs. Sara Bhai, Khichadi and many more that ran over thousands of episodes collectively. Aatish was the one who directed an all-time classic TV show Wagle ki duniya. He has also written the screenplay for movies like Khichdi – The Movie, Aankhen, Yaadein, Action Replay.

AKASH KHURANA

Akash Khurana needs no introduction actually, such is his popularity as a household face on TV as well as Bollywood for more than three decades. He is an actor, screenwriter, and entrepreneur. His first script was Swayam (1988), a film that he himself acted in. He went on to work on numerous film scripts, including Aashiqui (1990), Baazigar (1993), Daag: The Fire (1999), Aakrosh (2010), Sarfarosh (1999), Koi Mil Gaya (2003), Krrish (2006) and Barfi! (2012). He has also written extensively for television. His theatrical involvements have included working with Pandit Satyadev Dubey, Naseeruddin Shah and Sunil Shanbag. He is associated with the Mumbai based theatre group, Akvarious. He continues to act, write, direct and teach.

JYOTI TANDON SEHKARI

Having always been aesthetically inclined when it came to literature, Jyoti began her tryst with Indian Television in the year 2005, after completing a Mass Media degree. Pouring herself into every project she undertook, she racked up some amazing numbers with “Saath Nibhana Saathiya” and after that there was no looking back for her. She garnered some multi-faceted experience working in various fields  such as writing, editing and production too.  She has written for shows like shows like “Dhoond Legi Manzil Hamein” for Star One, “Tamanna” for Star Plus, “Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali” for Life Ok, “Bhagyalaxmi/Saubhagyalaxmi” for And TV, “Woh Apna Sa” for ZEE TV, “Roop – Mard Ka Naya Swaroop” for Colors and “Santoshi Maa Sunaiye Vrat Kathaiye” for And TV, amongst others. Jyoti continues to develop new content for television, and at the beginning of 2020 wrote and produced her first television show “Tu Patang Main Dor” for Zee Punjabi. After more than 15 years in the industry, she still retains her passion for story-telling in the dynamic television format.

ISHITA MOITRA

If we were to judge Ishita by the achievements she has amassed as a screenwriter over the last couple of decades, she is bound to make a lot of jaws drop. She has not merely racked up the numbers with her TV hits, but has also delivered quality of the highest order very often. Among her highest points in TV shows are some of the iconic soaps like Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Dekha Ek Khwab. Her screenwriting prowess scored some Bollywood successes like Kambakht Ishq, Ragini MMS2 and Half Girlfriend. 

JAYESH PATIL

To call him a ‘Jack of all trades’ would be a grave injustice to Jayesh Patil, for he has shown prodigious mastery across many platforms like Screenwriting, Production, Content strategy, Broadcasting and many others. His true calling, however, is writing. In a career spanning more than two decades, Jayesh has written over six thousand episodes for various television series and channels and supervised more than fifteen thousand hours of TV content. Jayesh has under his belt, the success stories like  the horror series Who, Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka.  Jayesh is most known for his work with the blockbuster Hindi sitcom Bade Achhe Lagte. He has won the Indian Telly Jury Award for the Best Story Writer Award for the series in 2012.

S. MANASVI

  1. Manasvi certainly lives up to the Sanskrit meaning of his name, which is “Someone with a burning, single minded passion at whatever he does”. An architect from Madhav Institute of Technology and Science (MITS), Gwalior Manasvi later became a filmmaker and a writer. He is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. After passing out of FTII in 2004, he made corporate films, adfilms, music videos and wrote for Television. He has been credited as the dialogue writer for Left Right Left, Choti Bahu, Parvarrish – Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi, Ek Boond Ishq and Hum Hain Na. Currently, he is writing the dialogue for Ek Veer Ki Ardaas…Veera and Dilli Wali Thakur Gurls, and developing shows. Manasvi continues to add more dimensions to his creativity and is involved in some truly out-of-the-box projects.
